Vegetable warehouses give way to agro-clusters

“More than 50 regions of Russia sell their products in the agro-cluster ‘Food City’, which opened last year in the territory of New Moscow.” – Sobyanin, the Mayor of Moscow, told reporters during his visit to the complex yesterday.

According to the Mayor, the new center adheres to the format of civilized wholesale and small-scale wholesale trade for catering, restaurants and shops in Moscow. When it was created, the experiences of Madrid, Paris and Berlin were taken into account, where such complexes have been developing actively for a long time. Moscow’s version, located in the Kaluga Highway, has been operating for just over a year and has already proved itself in the market. The figures speak for themselves: almost a third of the fresh products supplied to Moscow are sold at the sites of this agricultural center.

“The format turned out to be in high demand” - Sergey Sobyanin emphasized. “The complex has reasonable prices and a strict sanitary control, soon, a local customs post will open. I hope that in the future ‘Food City’ will make the trade market in Moscow more civilized and will influence the formation and dynamics of prices.

According to one of the owners of the agro-cluster, God Nisanov, about 700 thousand tons of food passes through ‘Food City’ per year, which allows to cover a quarter of the city's needs for fresh vegetables, fruit, fish and meat. The businessman stated that the area is now filled by 60%.

“Over the year, we have managed to attract more than three thousand tenants” - said the businessman. “These are producers from 52 Russian regions and more than 26 foreign companies, that have opened their representative houses here. First of all, these were the countries of Latin America, Syria, and Iran”.

‘Food City’ is now the largest fish trade house in Moscow. Counters literally "burst" from abundance. Both foreign and domestic products are present on its shelves. Mainly, these are from Murmansk, Astrakhan, Russian Far East and Kamchatka.
