Kievskaya Square To Start Unique Olympic Stadium Reconstruction in 2019

Moscow’s Olympic Stadium was built in 1980 on the eve of the XXII Olympic Games. Since then it remains Europe’s largest sports complex and one of the city’s legendary sights, being the only one sports and entertainment facility of this size in the immediate proximity to the historical city center. Throughout its lifespan it has been a training area for the USSR leading national teams as well as a popular music concert arena. Russian super stars have celebrated their triumphs here, while western rock groups have chosen this top sports complex for their first USSR concert tour venue. The international Eurovision competition took place here in 2009.

The stadium will be upgraded and reconstructed in the near future, and the citizens will be offered all the benefits of a 21-st century sports and entertainment hub. The new owners intend to turn it into Russia’s and Europe’s for professional training and competition site. As before Olympic Stadium will be the favored place for family recreation. Show programs, concerts and video broadcastings, top international tours will be designed and performed on the same grandiose scale as the memorable 1980 Olympic ceremonies.

The unique design was executed by the Kievskaya Square architectural bureau and Poland’s APA, with its 35-year experience in commercial property designing around the world. According to the general idea, all the historical elements will be preserved. The will be reconstructed and retain their functional purpose.

The swimming and jumping pools will feature modern purification systems and undergo further reconstruction. The premises will be fitted with big-size plasma screens to broadcast the competitions. The hockey and soccer fields will be completely renovated. The multifunctional transformer concert hall with unprecedented acoustic system will be a stage for the widest variety of artists: from rock groups to symphony orchestras. A new item will be the innovative business event premise for exhibitions and multimedia conferences.

The refurbished Olympic Stadium will also house a health and rehabilitation facility, swimming and jumping pools, gyms, modern aquatic park, extreme sports arena, roofed skating rink, tennis courts, concert hall, exhibition and conference center, 3D and 5D multiplex cinema, children’s entertainment club, spa and fitness areas, cafes, restaurants and a parking lot for 5,000 units.

The stadium will be closed for reconstruction in 2019, to be rebuilt in several stages during two years. All the concerts and events slated for 2018 will be performed as scheduled.
